Construction, Day One

Starting at noon, the first day saw the basic framing of the room.  First came the outer sills and corner:

Note the pink stuff between the walls/ceiling and the studs.  That's the foam sill-seal which will hopefully provide a good vapor seal for the entire room.  In the above picture (and subsequent) you see my father Richard Yon hard at work making the project happen.  I couldn't have done it without him, as quite frankly I haven't a clue how to frame a room or mount a pre-hung door, so mostly I provided muscle and wine/cooling-related design input for the room.

Next came the basic studs for the walls:

Next we framed the rough opening for the door and framed the opening for the cooling unit (you can see the cross-support on the right side wall, and a glint of the metal support bracket):

There's only a single incandescent bulb in the room, so we replaced it with a double outlet in the ceiling and wired two shop lights (one for the main room and one for the wine room).  By the end of the day we had hung the first shop light and tested the fit of the cooling unit, so this is how we left it that night:

On to Day Two...
