Construction, Day Three

By now we were done with a big chunk of the work.  All that remained to do before we could put the wine in was to mount the racking.  We first mounted 1"x2" strapping to the walls so that the racks would have something to mount to:

This was tricker than it looked, as we had to make sure we hit the studs behind all that foam, and we ended up having to buy 4" screws given the studs were in some cases sitting behind 2½" of foam and wallboard.

We were now ready to mount the racks.  We first moved them into position, and then one-by-one mounted the bottle rack and two diamond bins to the wall:

Our careful measurement paid off handsomely, as the entire "U" shape racking mounted to the strapping without a single shim.  The corner units fit beautifully, and turned out to be quite stable:

We had been running the cooling unit all night to bring the temperature down, and here's how it ended up lining up over the racking:

By now you're probably thinking, "Boy this room is pink!"  Yup, it's pink alright.  I have to admit I'm not entirely thrilled with that aspect of the room, but adding wallboard over the foam was going to be difficult and time-consuming, and I really wanted to wrap up construction at the end of the week.  If I get really ambitious, I may go in there and paint it white this winter when it's cold enough to pull the wine out into the main room.  The alternate approach would be to steadily make wine-label wallpaper and line the room with that instead.

Next job, move in the wine!
